Thank you all so much for your comments and support during my EP legacy. It was lots of fun, but I don’t know if I would have stuck with it if it weren’t for you! Now that it’s done, I wanted to give you a little update about my continuing and forthcoming projects.
1) I will be going ahead with my TS1 play through. I know a couple of you are looking forward to it. I’m just waiting to hear some character ideas, so don’t be shy! I have anonymous posting enabled for those of you who don’t want to create accounts here, or you can find me at my My Page.
2) I’ve been asked to create a short tutorial about using cfe to create sloped roofs. It’s a small one-off thing, so I should be able to get to it this weekend.
3) I haven’t forgotten about Barnacle Bay! A couple of weeks ago I completed the architecture for the town gym. I’m happy with how it’s looking; it’s just quite big, and I haven’t been feeling inspired to decorate it recently. It’s simply going to be a matter of waiting until the mood strikes and then going for it.
4) During the final generation of my legacy, I was thinking a lot about what I’d like to do next, and I think I’ve come up with something I’ll enjoy. I’m calling it the ‘Skills Legacy’. Let me tell you a little more about it.
The Skills Legacy
Each generation, my heir will explore three skills, and only those three. There are plenty of skills that I didn’t get that deep into during my EP legacy, so I’m hoping that things won’t get too repetitive for you. What I think will be most interesting will be the way the three skills interact with one another. For example, normally I’d have my nectar makers also take up gardening, but if that’s not what they’ve rolled then I’ll have to think about how else to get them high quality ingredients – maybe through cloning if they’re into science, or just by checking the harvest stand a lot for good deals. I’m looking forward to being forced to break my usual habits, and in particular my tendency to level up cooking, charisma, and athletic on almost every sim.
I’m probably not going to be sending my sims to university, but I am going to cheat and use Master Controller to give my heirs the extra social group and degree trait slots so they have a bit more personality. Three of the slots I’ll fill with traits relating to the skills they’ve rolled; the remaining four I’ll randomly select out of a list I’ve managed to narrow down to forty.
My first heir will be Mira and Edwin’s eldest son Arjan. I just wasn’t ready to say goodbye to the sims from my last legacy! However, he doesn’t have any skills yet and I’m going to reduce his funds to the standard 16,500 and LTR points to zero, so this will be a proper first generation fresh start.
Of course using the same sims limits the number of worlds that I can use without annoying continuity issues, but luckily I’ve identified five locations that we either haven’t visited yet or at least haven’t formed significant relationships in. These are Lunar Lakes, Riverview, Shang Simla, Twinbrook, and Monte Vista. I’ll be doing ten generations, so we can have two in each: perfect! Martial arts needs to take place in Shang Simla for the tournament, and for scuba diving I’ll need Monte Vista (something to do with the water depth in the others not being suitable for the dive lots), but the remaining three I’ll randomize.
