Photobucket Now Charging for 3rd Party Hosting: Please Bear with Me

I’ve been very busy over the last couple of days and somehow missed that Photobucket has stuck the ability to embed images on 3rd party sites behind a hulking great paywall.

I use Photobucket to host most of the the images I share on this blog, which โ€”as you may have noticedโ€”are now broken.

Fortunately, I have backups of them all, but if Photobucket sticks with this decision, I am still going to have to go through hundreds of posts and re-embed thousands of images. I apologize for the inconvenience and I hope you will bear with me while I slowly work my way through this tedious process; I imagine it will take me quite a while.

In the mean time, if there is a particular post you’d like to see sooner rather than later, just drop me a comment at the bottom of it. As always, I have anonymous comments enabled for those of anyone who doesn’t want to sign in.

Happy Simming!

  1. So sorry to hear about the problems! Your pictures are all so great, and such a necessary component to your story, I am sure it will be worth the wait to have you do what is needed to continue. This is supposed to be an enjoyable endeavor for you, not just us readers, so take your time and good luck in sorting through all your goodies!! Hugs! =)

    • Thank you for your patience and your kind words about my pictures! I will continue to post new parts (the latest one just has a large ‘cast’ so is taking a long time), and I guess slowly go over my old posts and replace the pictures in spare moments here and there xx

    • Yes, I think I am done with Photobucket, even if they do change their minds about this hotlinking business. I’ve heard good things about postimage.org, so I think that’ll be the first alternative I try.

    • Thank you! Yes, I think I’ll just try to get one post re-linked every couple of days. I will continue to post new updates in the mean time though! The latest from Snordwich should be out some time this week x

  4. What a ghastly thing for PB to do! I’ve been getting really sick of that site lately. I host my photos there but wasn’t directly linking them into my posts. Still, I’m sick of fighting the ads and half the time the editor doesn’t even work. It’s such a nightmare. I hope you’re able to get things worked out without too much stress.

  5. That’s awful — best of luck finding an alternative! I’ve been searching for one as well, and I can’t imagine what I’d do if I lost the images already on my site (I don’t have any backups because I don’t think that far ahead oops)

  6. For those who use Google Chrome, there are a couple free extensions available that fix the problem for us readers. I’ve been using one simply called photobucket embed fix.

This is how I’ve been reading Snordwich, and just want to say I’ve been thoroughly enjoying your blog. ๐Ÿ˜€
